After a nail biting few days, we finally have our passports in hand thanks to dad flying up to wellington to pick them up. However, we still don’t have our Chinese visas, leaving us with one day to process them in Christchurch. Luckily it relatively easy to get a Chinese visa in a day. Still cutting it down to the wire though!! We have also heard that our car has arrived safe in Beijing and is in storage. Dad and will meet in Singapore on Thursday night and then through to Beijing for the next chapter of our journey.

We have finally packed our bags leaving it the the last minute as usual. Once again we have taken the less is best approach with our packing as the less weight and clutter we have to carry with us the better off we will be. It has been an eventful week as we discovered that we weren’t mean to leave and fluids in the car! Yet we left the radiator full of coolant! (oops)  We have been rushing around to find bits of paperwork and buy our last bits and pieces (more clutter) for the rally. With the visas almost done, we are set to go! Only 12 days left the pressure is on to make sure we haven’t forgot anything.

Rally preperations

After a long stint in the workshop, the car is finally ready and on the water on its way to Beijing looking mean as ever. Jason and Phill have done and awesome job preparing the car and have managed to cut a lot of the weight out  (roughly 200KG!) Some of which has been cut out in the lighter driver and navigator. A few minor improvements and modifications include a better bonnet for more cooling and ventalation, and some perspecs windshields to reduce the fatigue after a long day or driving. Apart from a good check over the whole car there hasn’t been many modifications as we are hoping that our tried and tested formula will do us well and carry us across the line in Paris in about 2 months. As the old saying goes, if you look after your gear, it will look after you.
